Cumberland Island, Georgia
An American Treasure

YUCCA DUNES
Dunes are the island's first defense against a stormy sea...

Greyfield Inn has its own small wooden gazebo on a high dune at the beach, and here you can perch to watch the great blue herons, gulls, ibis, and terns paint an ever-changing seascape along the windblown shore.

The gently sloping beach is washed twice daily by the tide, an ever-changing habitat alive with ghost crabs and long-legged waders stalking the shallow pools.

Follow the oak lined paths into Cumberland's sun-dappled maritime forest. Abundant rainfall and a climate tempered by the sea contribute to this lush environment. The forest canopy includes live oak, cabbage palm, magnolia, American holly, red cedar and pine, draped with muscadine vines and jessamine.

OAK AVENUE
Look for whitetail deer, grey squirrels, raccoons, and armadillos as well as a wide variety of birds, from tiny warblers to wild turkeys.
INLAND CREEK

GREEN MAN Greyfield Inn is furnished today as it was at the turn of the century. Its 17 rooms and wide welcoming verandah seem as far away from today's technology as the Milky Way. A private ferry transports guests to the Inn from Fernandina Beach, Florida on the mainland. We invite you to explore all that Cumberland Island has to offer, while enjoying your stay at historic Greyfield Inn.
